About Emerson’s House of Refuge.

Emerson’s House of Refuge is a Non-Profit organization serving the needs of others, with a focus on the poorest of the poor in  El Salvador.  We are in connection with local ministries here in Columbus, Ohio, CEDEINFA in El Salvador, as well as other various global ministry partners.

“Our job is to love others without stopping to inquire whether or not they are worthy. That is not our business and, in fact, it is nobody’s business.  What we are asked to do is to love, and this love itself will render both ourselves and our neighbors worthy.”                                                                       Thomas Merton

“We have seen far too great a need that to ignore it would be a greater crime than to have caused it.”  We know of needs that with basic support can be the difference between hope and despair, life and death.  with minimal sacrifice we can change the course of another human life for the better.

Our Mission

To connect those individuals with a heart for service and a desire to love others to areas where they will produce the greatest amount of good.  This will not only benefit those in need but also those meeting that need, and foster a love between all of Gods children.

Our Vision

To change a culture of hopelessness into one of hope and prosperity to those in need by providing the skills and tools necessary to determine their own destiny.

Our Story

How We Got Started

In 2009 Dr. Robert Pema led our first mission trip to San Salvador, El Salvador to explore the possibilities of performing ENT surgeries for impoverished children.  This was accomplished due to the partnership with CEDEINFA a non-profit operating out of San Salvador.  Several years later Dr. Pema and Cecil Dotson formed the non-profit organization Emerson’s House of Refuge.    This organization was created in order to facilitate mission trips and support from the  United States to El Salvador.

Where We Are Now

Over ten years later this organization as well as our partnership with CEDEINFA continues to grow.  Over 100 ENT surgeries have been performed on children in need.  Through obedience and answering the call we have been able to provide over 200 volunteers to serve in El Salvador.  We have built numerous homes and improved community centers throughout the city in our construction programs.  We continue to support the vocational programs of CEDEINFA including but not limited to baking, sewing, cosmetology, computer training, and a carpentry workshop.
